Catherine Butler

Catherine Butler is a current Graduate Performance Diploma student at Boston University. She has earned her bachelor’s from Wayne State University in Instrumental Music Education and Flute Performance and her master’s in Flute Performance from Boston University. Having previously studied with Sharon Sparrow, Laura Larson, and Holly Clemans, she currently studies with Linda Toote.

Catherine spends her summers performing professionally with the Ohio Light Opera and has performed internationally with the International Symphony Orchestra in Sarnia, Canada and the Wayne State Camerata in Italy. She also teaches privately at Boston University and Expressions Music Academy and completed her student teaching in Detroit Public Schools, including a youth ensemble at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Catherine is a frequent solo performer, having performed in numerous masterclasses, most notably for Leone Buyse, Lorna McGhee, and Valerie Coleman. She was the winner of the 2018-2019 Wayne State Concerto Competition and has performed four concerti with orchestras and continues to participate in enriching performance and teaching opportunities.

 

Anne Chao, student of Renee Krimsier at New England Conservatory

Anne Chao, a 22-year-old flutist, was born in the United States and grew up in Taiwan. Her musical journey has been filled with notable achievements, including winning First Prize in the New Taipei City Music Competition in 2013 and receiving the Excellent Award at the 7th TSB Concerto Competition in 2017. In 2018, she achieved First Prize in the Taipei Asia Pacific Competition and Second Prize in the Taipei City Music Competition. Anne concluded her high school studies in Taiwan with a First Prize in The National Student's Music Contest in 2019. In 2022, she got the second prize in the New York Flute Club Young Artist Competition. In 2023, Anne won the third prize in NEC/Pops Concerto competition and the second prize in New Jersey Flute Society Young Artist competition.

 

Chen-Yu Lee, student of Linda Toote at Boston University

Chen-yu lee

Based in Boston, Chen-Yu Lee is a Taiwanese born Flutist pursuing his Masters at Boston University. He has most recently placed 2nd place in the Texas Music Stars International Competition, and was chosen to represent Taiwan at the 2020 Japan Flute Convention held in Fukuoka.

Lee is well versed in the world of Classical Flute repertoire, having performed with the Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Opera at Boston University as well as the University of Memphis where he attained his undergraduate degree.

A hungry competitor and a passionate performer, Lee is constantly looking for opportunities to hone his craft, most recently performing with the New England Philharmonic for the 2022-2023 season.

An open soul, Lee also loves to share his love of the Flute with others. Having taught in the United States and Taiwan, and loves to play chamber music with other talented musicians. Lee has studied under Cathy Peterson, Alexa Still, Elise Blatchford, Ann Bobo, and is currently studying with Linda Toote.

 
 

Yechan Min, student of Paula Robison at New England Conservatory.

Yechan min

Yechan Min was born in Seoul, Republic of Korea. He spent his childhood learning to play the flute in his school and youth orchestra. When he was twelve years old, music claimed his heart and he knew he wanted to be a flutist.

At the age of seventeen, he played for Paula Robison who insisted that he moved to Boston, Massachusetts to study with her at the New England Conservatory of Music. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree as a student of “American Treasure” Paula Robison, and he has received New England Conservatory’s Donna Heiken Presidential Flute Scholarship for his Master of Music degree. These began his parts of years of life in Boston and gave huge changes in both playing and personality.

He has started win competitions since 2015, including Rochester Flute Association Flute Competition (2020), Singapore Flute Competition (2018). Hong Kong International Music Competition (2018), Sungjung Music Competition (2016), and Seoul National University Wind Competition (2016), and Korea Flute Association Competition (2015-6), which followed by winners’ concerts. In addition, he was selected to perform a Kumho Prodigy Concert Solo Recital at Kumho Art Hall in 2017, and he was invited back to present a Kumho Young Artist Concert Solo Recital on July 25, 2020. Most recently, he performed in Jordan Hall as a member of the Zephyr Woodwind Quintet, a 2022-23 New England Conservatory Honors Ensemble.
