Where: Longy School of Music of Bard College
The James Pappoutsakis Memorial Fund (JPMF) and Longy School of Music of Bard College proudly present the 2nd Annual Boston Flute Day. The event takes place on February 22, 2026, from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at Longy School of Music of Bard College.
This exciting, all-day event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have access to a showcase by local flute center Flutistry, including trials of handmade and student flutes and piccolos for sale, repair technician on site, plus sheet music and accessories available for sale. Enjoy Longy student pop-up flute performances, and two flute masterclasses by Longy faculty members Allison Parramore and Vanessa Breault Mulvey. The masterclasses are open to students of all local schools, not just the competition-eligible conservatories for the Pappoutsakis Competition.
The day culminates with the highly-anticipated final round performances of the 46th Annual Pappoutsakis Flute Competition. This year’s four finalists are current students at New England Conservatory and Boston University. They will compete for cash prizes, performances, and professional development. About the Pappoutsakis Flute Competition:
Since its founding in 1979, the James Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition has stood as a cornerstone of the Boston flute community, honoring the memory of one of the city’s most revered flutists and pedagogues. James Pappoutsakis, longtime second flutist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and distinguished teacher at the New England Conservatory and Boston University, left a legacy of artistic integrity, generosity, and mentorship that continues to inspire generations of flutists.
