THE JAMES PAPPOUTSAKIS FLUTE COMPETITION

Ona Jonaityte , First Prize winner of the 2007 Pappoutsakis Competition

On Sunday, February 4th, 2007, the first place prize of the 27th annual James Pappoutsakis Memorial Competition was awarded to Boston Conservatory student Ona Jonaityte , student of Linda Toote.  The jury then made the unanimous decision to share the Bill Grass Memorial Prize  between the other three finalists:  Erin Hunt, Sungwoo Steven Kim and Thomas Wible.   In addition to the cash prize, Ms. Jonaityte chose an Argentium headjoint made and donated by former Mr. Pappoutsakis student and flutemaker, Jonathon Landell.  She will also present a solo recital at the next GBFA Flute Fair in October, 2007.  On this concert, she will perform "Soliloquy (harmonic images for flute and piano)" by Boston composer John Heiss, commissioned for this year's competition.
