The 32nd Annual First Place "James Pappoutsakis Memorial Prize" Winner:

Jisun Oh

Twenty-year-old flutist Jisun Oh started to play the flute at the age of 11 and piano at the age of 4. She won numerous competitions such as the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra , Toronto Sinfonietta, Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competitions, Kiwanis Music Festival, and Ontario Music Festival(OMFA). In the summer of 2008, she was the youngest wind finalist of the National Music Festival (Federations of Canadian Music Festivals). Jisun also appeared as a soloist with the Toronto Sinfonietta, Kichener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra, Academy Symphony Orchestra of the Royal Conservatory of the Music. Past few summers, she attended Banff Music Festival ,the Orford Music Festival and Domaine Forget where she studied with Emmanuel Pahud,Robert Langevin, Carol Wincenc, Jeffrey Khaner, Mattieu Dufour and Tara O’Connor. While studying in Toronto, she part of Royal Conservatory of Music’s Young Artists Performance Program where she studied with Julie Ranti. Jisun is currently pursuing her Bachelor Degree of Music at the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Renee Krimsier.

Bethanne Walker

Boston Conservatory of Music
Bethanne Walker is currently pursuing a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Boston Conservatory, where she is a student of Linda Toote. A native of Eugene, Oregon, she began her flute studies at the age of twelve, and studied with Dr. Nancy Andrew, who was a student of the late Marcel Moyse.
This fall, she performed the Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, BWV 1049 with the Boston Conservatory String Ensemble. She also won the Boston Conservatory Honors Chamber Music Competition in 2008. This recent summer, Bethanne was a member of the flute ensemble, Wye’s Guys, performing at the National Flute Association Convention in Charlotte, NC, and was coached by the legendary pedagogue, Trevor Wye. In 2009, Bethanne was a Bowdoin International Music Festival Fellowship Recipient, where she had the honor of performing with the celebrated composer George Crumb’s daughter, Ann Crumb, in a performance of Crumb’s Night of the Four Moons. In 2006, Bethanne won the Eugene Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, and she was a finalist with the MetroArts Young Artist Competition in the same year.

Michel Dew

Boston Conservatory of Music
Michel Dew began playing the flute seriously at 15 years old, and since then has enjoyed many opportunities to perform. She performed with the Dearborn Youth Symphony and the University of Michigan Youth Symphony. She participated in several High School competitions throughout her High School years and has had the incredible opportunity to participate in Master classes with Rhonda Larson and Marianne Gedigian. She also studied privately with Rhonda Larson, and Jeff Zook. She is now currently enrolled at The Boston Conservatory of Music and studies with Ann Bobo. She enjoys the many performance opportunities that she has been a part of in her two years at the Boston Conservatory and looks forward to many more.

Hanol Lee

Boston University College of Fine Arts
Born in Seoul, Korea, Hanol Lee has received her Bachelor of Music degree from Chung- ang University where she graduated with an honor of first place in orchestral instrument department. In 2009, she moved to the United States, and continued her studies with Emily Skala at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Hanol was awarded numerous competitions including KEPCO Arts Center, ECCS (Music for Spring and Autumn) Magazine Competition in Seoul, Korea. Recently, she was the first prize winner of the Baltimore Music Club Competition in 2011. Ms. Lee was also has performed in the master classes of Andre Adorijan, Walter Auer, Jeanne Baxtresser, Julian Beaudiment, Linda Chesis, Gian Paolo Corradetti, Georges Lambert, Maxence Larrieu, Paula Robison, Keith Underwood and Jim Walker. She also had numerous flute concerts, including Mercantini Theater Concert in Ascoli, Italy, Walters' Graham Auditorium Concert, Baltimore, USA, Saint-Gilles Pornic Church Concert in Pornic, France and Stadhalle Cocert, Saarburg, Germany. Hanol is currently under the tutelage of Linda Toote at the Boston University for her Doctorate degree.
