THE JAMES PAPPOUTSAKIS FLUTE COMPETITION

THE 29^th ANNUAL COMPETITION 2008/2009

Open to all flutists enrolled and studying flute at any of the following schools during the Fall semester 2007: Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory of Music, Boston University, Longy School of Music and New England Conservatory of Music.

The First Prize Winner will receive a cash award of $2,000, a gift certificate from Music Espresso, and will perform in concert. The William H. Grass Memorial Prize Winner will receive a cash award of $1,000 and a gift certificate from Falls House Press. The other finalists will receive a gift certificate from Yesterday Service.

Registration Form available online. Online registration complete when we receive your check. The deadline for registrations is October 15, 2008.

Preliminary Auditions will be held in camera Sunday, November 2, 2008 in the Marshall Room at Boston University.

Repertoire for the Preliminary Auditions (Contestants must use editions indicated):

Mozart D Major Concerto, Second Movement (no cadenza)

Pierre Ancelin: “Le Chant d'Oiseau qui n'existe pas” (Billaudot)

Piazzolla Tango #6 (Theo Presser)

Final Auditions are Feb 1, 2009 at 6:30pm in the Concert Hall at Boston University, 855 Commonwealth Ave.

Copland Duo, First Movement (Boosey & Hawkes)

Roussel: Joueurs de Flute, movements “Pan” and “Tityre” (Durand & Co.)

Michael Gandolfi: new piece

Martin: Ballade (Universal Edition)
