THE JAMES PAPPOUTSAKIS FLUTE COMPETITION

 

 

 


THE 21ST ANNUAL COMPETITION 2001

Open to all flutists enrolled and studying flute in any of the following schools during the Fall semester 2000: Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory of Music, Boston University, Longy School of Music and New England Conservatory of Music.

The First Prize Winner will receive a cash award of $1,500 and will perform in concert at the Eighth Annual Flute Fair of the Greater Boston Flute Association in March 2001. The Second Prize Winner will receive a cash award of $500.

Application Deadline: October 7, 2000.
Application Fee: $35 non-refundable.

Preliminary Auditions will be held in camera NOVEMBER 5, 2000 at the Boston Conservatory of Music, 8 The Fenway, Seully Hall, Boston.

Repertoire for the Preliminary Auditions (Contestants must use editions indicated):

(A) Malcolm Arnold Fantasie Op.89 for solo flute (Faber)
(B) Bozza, Image (Leduc)

Final Auditions will be open to the public FEBRUARY 4, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Boston Conservatory of Music, Seully Hall, 8 The Fenway, Boston.

Repertoire for the Final Auditions (Contestants must use editions indicated):

(A) Vivaldi Concerto #1 in F Major Op. 10. (Schott)
2. Largo
3. Presto

(B) Karg-Elert, Suite Pointillistique Op.135 (Zimmerman)
Der kranke Mond
Scherzo (Diavolina und Innocenz)

(C) A new composition for flute and piano written for the Competition that will be given to the finalists.
